OUR STEPS

Lets move towards sustainability

To bring economic and social equality as well as ensure a healthy life for our coastal women and youth, we are walking towards sustainable solutions.

Awareness Raising and Hygiene Kits Distribution Program

Where half of the total population are women in Bangladesh, menstruation is still appearing the biggest taboo. According to UNICEF, only 36% of girls hear about MHM before they get menarche. Moreover, 86% of girls use old clothes as absorbent and preserve the clothes for reuse. Besides, 92% don’t boil the used clothes in hot water and dry them in sunlight. Consequently, these practices are becoming highly responsible for vaginal irritation, urinary tract infection, Hepatitis B even HIV. Besides these, salinity is stimulating the diseases alarmingly in the coastal belt. Studies showed that 100% of women suffer from gynecological health problems like rash and fungal infections in the saline-prone areas 96.42% facing itching in the genital regions. Moreover, 82.86% of girls claim that they become unable to go to school due to leakage of menstrual blood.

So, to change the scenario, we are working collectively to raise awareness and build a habit of practicing safe menstrual hygiene management through campaigning and face-to-face interaction. We are distributing free hygiene kits among the women and adolescent girls of the coastal districts. Moreover, we are also working to develop a cheap and effective reusable sanitary pad that will be affordable for the coastal communities.

Empowerment Program

As you have read in the preceding parts, negative climate impacts create tremendous health complexities, foster unemployment problems, and violate human rights widely. It also increases gender inequality and vulnerability rapidly in the saline-prone coastal districts. Due to illiteracy and social restrictions, very few coastal women become able to come to the city and engage in income-generating activities after managing their traditional gender roles. Consequently, women who are half of the total population remain unemployed. So to bring them back to our mainstream economy, we are running a project called "home-factory" where a female can engage themselves in income-generating activities from their home by making environment-friendly products along with their traditional gender roles.

We train interested women according to market needs, finance them, and give all kinds of support to produce good quality products. Our management and marketing team monitor, inspect and collect products from them and supply them to the city shops and the third parties who export products to the first world countries. The actual aims of the project are to ensure their quality of life, better health, and hygiene with good menstruation (SDG 3, 6) by creating a decent working environment and doing business (SDG 8) in the gap between climate victim and climate destroyer.

Education Aid Program

Many meritorious students of the coastal belt are going through uncertainty due to financial problems. Most of the time, their families become unable to ensure financial security to continue their education. They find educational expenses an extra burden, especially for the girls, because of their limited income and conservative attitudes. As a result, children (both boys and girls) often dropped out of their academic life and are forced into marriage, labor, drug, etc. So, to stop this vicious circle, we are continuing financial aid programs for the poor girls and boys (schools, colleges, and universities) coming from coastal districts. In every academic year, we select a group of students for our educational grants.
